Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga wants to stay and play first-team football – but could consider a loan move if Nuno Espirito Santo isn’t keen.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Tanganga’s priority to stay with Tottenham and establish himself as a starter this coming season.

Galatasaray have made an offer to sign Tanganga on loan for the coming campaign, but the defender isn’t quite sold yet.

He wants to wait and see whether he will be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s immediate plans this season. If it looks like he won’t play, Tanganga will consider a loan exit.

Clubs in the Premier League and abroad are thought to be keen on Tanganga, which is no great surprise.

The 22-year-old can play at right back, centre back or left back, with his versatility across the back four surely appealing to many managers.

Praised as ‘fantastic’ by Jose Mourinho after his Premier League debut, Tanganga needs first-team football in order to continue his development, as he played just 13 games in all competitions last season.

With Toby Alderweireld gone and question marks over the future of Davinson Sanchez, it’s not unfathomable to think that Tanganga will be given a chance by Nuno.

The coming weeks will be vital, and with Galatasaray’s offer on the table, Tottenham have plenty to think about this month.
