Everton have been scouting Atletico Mineiro ace Guilherme Arana at the Olympic Games ahead of a potential move to sign him.
That’s according to Brazilian news outlet Torcedores, who claim that Everton scout Jamie Hoyland has been over in Japan to watch Arana.
Its stated that Arana impressed Everton with Atletico Mineiro and they have been monitoring him ever since.
Rafael Benitez is thought to be keen on Arana, but Atletico Mineiro don’t in tend the facilitate any move for their start left back.
They paid €2.5million (£2.1million) to sign Arana from Sevilla after an 18-month loan deal ended with a compulsory purchase.
The 24-year-old had spells with Corinthians, Atletico Paranaense, Sevilla and Atalanta before heading back to Brazil, and his attacking output has been impressive.
In 65 games with Atletico Mineiro, Arana has racked up eight goals and 10 assists, showcasing his outstanding play going forward.
Whether Everton actually need another left back is another matter though, as Lucas Digne is clear first-choice there and Niels Nkounkou is another option, as is youngster Thierry Small – if he signs a new deal.
A right back is more needed than a left back right now, but maybe Everton think that Arana is just too good to ignore having helped Brazil reach the semi-finals of the Olympic Games.
