La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have joined Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the race for Manuel Locatelli.
What’s the story?
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are interested in signing Locatelli from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window.
The former Premier League champions have not made an official bid, but the Reds are expected to make their opening offer soon.
Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali said this week that Arsenal and Juventus want to sign the 23-year-old Italy international midfielder.
Carnevali added that the Euro 2020 winner wants to join former Italian champions Juventus.
Could Liverpool win Manuel Locatelli race?
Arsenal have reportedly been trying to sign Locatelli for a while now, but the 23-year-old wants to join Juventus.
The Sassuolo star even dropped a strong hint on Twitter this month about his desire to move to Juventus.
However, if Juve and Sassuolo are not able to agree on a deal, then the door will open for Liverpool.
Unlike Arsenal, Liverpool will challenge for the Premier League title and will also play in the Champions League next season.
The Reds have won the league and the Champions League in recent years, and they could be very appealing to Locatelli, who was described by Italy boss Roberto Mancini as “a great player who can still improve” and who has “physicality, quality, vision, he has everything” – as quoted on PlanetFootball after his debut for the national team.
