The third chapter, Kingdom, in the Transformers: War for Cybertron saga has just launched on Netflix, but will the animated series return for season 4?

Every week, Netflix’s catalogue of animated content gets bigger and better; with the latest release being the third chapter in the War for Cybertron, Kingdom.

The animated series has become a worldwide hit for both the franchise and streaming platform since debuting in July 2020.

At the time of writing, WFC is standing at both a solid 7.4/10 on IMDB and 74% on Rotten Tomatoes – with that number expected to rise over the weekend.

However, as one door closes, another opens: what does the future hold for War for Cybertron?

Will there be a War for Cybertron season 4?

  • Unfortunately, there will not be a fourth season of Transformers: War for Cybertron, with the recently released ‘Kingdom’ chapter being the series finale.

The promotional material and marketing campaign for the War for Cybertron series always referred to it as a trilogy, with emphasis put on Kingdom being the end. Therefore, fans shouldn’t expect any more content arriving on Netflix from the War for Cybertron series.

However, there is always the possibility of a spin-off series, especially considering how Kingdom ended. Could we see a continuation of the story in another series perhaps?

Fans can be hopeful of a spin-off considering that Netflix is continuing to expand its library of original animated titles. Moreover, the platform has already launched several similar spin-off projects before, including The Boss Baby: Back in Business, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and Pacific Rim: The Black.

The start of a new partnership?

Whilst there may not be more future War for Cybertron content, the series’ global success does promote something else that fans should be excited for; a partnership with more production studios, specifically Rooster Teeth.

Rooster Teeth is a household name to anyone who has been around YouTube or just general ‘geek culture’ on the internet for a while.

Whilst many fans will recognise the team, founded in 2003, from the likes of Achievement Hunter and Funhaus, the Texas-based production company are responsible for two of the most iconic internet series of all time, Red Vs Blue and RWBY.

For fans, their move towards mainstream production and distribution in recent years, culminating in a partnership with Netflix for Transformers: War for Cybertron, can only be a good thing. In this manner, the more production studios work with the streaming giant, the more fantastic content can be launched for us fans; it’s a win – win.

Polygon Pictures have already partnered with Netflix before on several titles, including Ajin: Demi-Human, Drifting Dragons and Pacific Rim: The Black.

Two new animated movies on the way…

The good news for fans is that there is more animated-Transformers content on the horizon, specifically season 4 of Cyberverse (the previous series to War for Cybertron) which will be in the form of two animated movies.

The first is titled ‘The Immobilizers’ and has a runtime of 44 minutes, with the synopsis reading “The entire planet of Cybertron becomes frozen in time.”

Whilst the second is ‘The Perfect Decepticon’, also with a 44-minute duration and has the caption, “The peace treaty between the Autobots and Decepticons is put to the test.”

The movies will reportedly be available to stream via Netflix, with at least one of the two titles airing on November 21st, 2021.

This article will be updated with more information as it is officially confirmed.
