Rangers kick off their first Champions League campaign in a decade next week when they face Malmo in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie – and Steven Gerrard has had to leave some senior faces out of his squad to face the Swedes.

There is no place in the Rangers squad for Jon McLaughlin, Niko Katic, Nathan Patterson or Jermain Defoe – although Patterson will be eligible to be named on the B list and feature against Malmo.
Clubs can name a total of 25 players on the A list, with eight of those having to be considered homegrown players – split between four trained at Rangers and four trained elsewhere in the same country.
Younger Academy players can be included on the B list rather with clubs regularly making use of the secondary list to supplement their matchday squad.
That’s led to one or two surprise inclusions in the group, such as Jake Hastie, with the Gers only able to register 23 players.
Both Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe will miss the two legs of the Malmo game through suspension but must be named on the A list to serve their bans.
Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack are both in the squad, although neither will be involved in the first leg, there’s a chance one (or both) could feature in the return.
