Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to Danny Rose claiming that he was ‘harshly treated’ at the club, as he told Ben Foster’s Cycling GK channel.
The 31-year-old left Spurs this summer after his contract expired in North London and he has since taken his defensive qualities to Watford.
During his final season at the club, Rose didn’t kick a ball and was told to train with the U23’s.
He was also involved in a heated exchange with Jose Mourinho during Tottenham’s All or Nothing documentary.
But he has since shared that his frank words with the now-Roma boss are just the norm in the game.
This is what Rose had to say about the latter stages of his Spurs career and that All or Nothing doc.
“People who are in football will understand that’s a normal conversation you have with a manager on a day-to-day basis when you aren’t playing,” said Rose.
“To the outside world, with the feedback I got, it looked like I shouldn’t be speaking like that.
“But for every player not playing, if you are not having these conversations with your manager then you don’t have the motivation to play. That’s just how it was. I felt I was harshly treated.
“So, from day one in pre-season, I had a meeting with Mourinho and Daniel Levy. They said ‘I wasn’t needed anymore’. I said ‘I respect your decision’. And I try to make the best of a very bad situation.”
Spurs fans have provided a mixed reaction to Rose’s comments and some feel he could have left earlier, whilst others are in agreement with him and felt that he should have been treated a lot better.
The former England defender knew for several seasons that he wasn’t wanted, and during that period, he only spent time out on loan at Newcastle for a six-month period and also sat on the sidelines.
But given that he is starting a new life at Vicarage Road, he will want to prove a lot of people wrong, including some back at his former club.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to Rose’s comments:
