Michael Edwards has been wielding his magic for Liverpool yet again in the transfer window.

Ibrahima Konate at £36 million remains the Reds’ only arrival, but Edwards, the club’s director of football, has made a chunk of that back by selling some deadwood.

Liverpool recouped some £29 million for the sales of Taiwo Awoniyi, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic last week.

And given that you couldn’t even call any of them squad players at the club, it’s a remarkable piece of business.

Honestly, Edwards is now synonymous with the word ‘bargain’, whether it be buying or selling players.

But if one rumour is true, the Liverpool man could make his worst signing of his career at Anfield.

No value

According to The Daily Star, the Reds are interested in a £30 million deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore.

There’s no doubt that Traore is rocket-fast and strong as a bull.

And if Liverpool were an athletics club, this would be a fantastic addition, but it’s a football club and Traore is yet to do anything in the Premier League to warrant a £30 million price-tag.

Seven Premier League goals in 103 games for Wolves just isn’t good enough and considering he’d be back up to one of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, two goal machines, it doesn’t inspire confidence that the Spain international can adequately cover either of them.

If this goes through, you could argue that it would be Edwards’s worst signing at Liverpool and lacking the extraordinary value that he regularly secures for the club.
