The entirety of All American season 3 was released on Netflix US on July 27, where fans welcome a new female head coach. Who is the actress behind the team’s latest chief?
Season 3 begins with a new school year and with that, the audience is introduced to Coach Montes after Olivia’s dad, Billy, resigned at the end of the last season.
She debuts at the start of episode 2, How to Survive in South Central, and immediately makes it clear that she will not tolerate any misbehaviour from the players – she’s heard it all before as a female football player, so save the jokes.
Here’s everything we know about the coach running the elite football team.
Alexandra Barreto is Coach Montes
With a career beginning in 2000, Alexandra Barreto has appeared in over 27 TV shows and four feature films. If she looks familiar, then you probably saw her in The Fosters as recurring character Ana Gutierrez, her longest role.
Before her All American gig, she portrayed Antonia Pena in FX’s Mayans M.C. and appeared in several of the CSI franchise.
She met her husband Rider Strong while filming 2006 comedy series Pepper Dennis. After six years of dating, they got engaged in December 2012 and married the following year in Oregon.
Together the couple share a son born December 2014, named Indigo ‘Indy’ Barreto Strong.
New All American cast members
Apart from Montes, the show welcomes several other new characters.
Alondra Delgado plays Vanessa Montes, the coach’s daughter and transfers to Beverly Hill’s High because of her mother’s new job. She rocks Asher and Olivia’s relationship through the season after it’s revealed that she had a summer fling with him.
Coincidentally, Alondra also had a role on Mayans M.C like her on-screen mum!
Noah Gray-Cabey and Simeon Daise
Spencer’s return to South Crenshaw High means new teammates – Frausto is portrayed by Noah Gray-Cabey and Simeon Daise plays Jabari Long. But teammates don’t automatically transform into friends, as Frausto is hostile towards Crenshaw ‘newbies’ Spencer and Coach Baker.
