Release date and plot

After its original May 2020 release date was scrapped, The Green Knight will be arriving on screens in the US and Canada on July 30th, 2021.

The film will be released throughout August in many countries around the world but no release dates have been announced thus far for the UK and Ireland beyond simply ‘2021’.

Based on the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the film tells the story of King Arthur’s headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring and dangerous quest to confront the titular Green Knight.

On his epic adventure, Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) must contend with ghosts, giants, thieves and schemers on a journey that will ultimately define his character and prove his worth.

Where to watch The Green Knight

  • The Green Knight will be available to watch exclusively in theaters when it releases in the US and Canada on July 30th.

That’s right, fans wanting to watch the David Lowery-helmed film will have to venture out to the cinema in order to watch as there is no option to stream the film from home just yet.

Readers from the US can check out which venues will be screening The Green Knight here.

As the film is releasing exclusively in cinemas, The Green Knight will not be coming to any of the major streaming services upon its release including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or HBO Max.

Although there is nothing stopping the film from being added to one of the aforementioned services later down the line.
