Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant has praised Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United on the club’s official website.

Grant has been impressed by how Leeds played in the Premier League last season.

It was the first time that Leeds were turning out in the top flight of English football since 2004.

The Whites finished as high as ninth in the league.

United goalkeeper Grant was impressed by Leeds, and in an article published on the Red Devils’ website this morning (10:32am), he has spoken highly of the West Yorkshire club.

The 38-year-old former Derby County goalkeeper made the comments about Leeds while praising Brentford ahead of the pre-season friendly between United and the Bees.

Leeds United and Brentford comparison

Grant told United’s official website: “You’re looking at quite a unique team, a unique club. A smaller club but a London club, so attractive to some as well. But the way they run the club, the framework, the ideas, the forward-thinking mentality, their use of technology and statistics.

“All of that stuff, for me, is really refreshing, and all of the club – the players, the staff – have bought into it massively and when you have a club that’s very united and solid and driven in terms of where they’re trying to go, as you’ve seen with Leeds it can propel you endlessly really. Because their goal and vision is so clear.

“As a squad and playing staff and coaching staff, I’m sure Brentford will be able to follow Leeds and have a really strong year next year.”

Deserved praise

As you will have noticed, Grant was praising Brentford, and he did that by comparing them to Leeds.

It shows just how much of an impression Leeds have made on Grant.

Leeds and United are big rivals, and it tells a lot when a rival player is so impressed that he publicly gives praise.

Bielsa’s side will hope to do better than last season and perhaps challenge for the Europa League places in the Premier League table.

You never know, Leeds could become regulars in Europe in the coming years.
