Borussia Dortmund could be about to deal Everton and Tottenham Hotspur some bad news by making their first official offer for Juventus defender Merih Demiral, per Sky Germany.
Marco Rose’s outfit are actively seeking a deal that will see Demiral switch the Allianz Stadium for the Westfalenstadion. The Bundesliga giants are yet to table a concrete bid to the Turin powerhouse, yet could formally step up their pursuit in the next few days.
Juventus are demanding around €30-40m (£25.5-£34m) to sell Demiral, however, and the price is a problem for Dortmund. The North Rhine-Westphalia natives refuse to pay over €30m for the Turkey international, and are seeking a more flexible arrangement.
Dortmund may ask Juventus to consider a loan that offers them the option or obligation to buy Demiral next year. BVB will also insist that any obligation to purchase the 23-year-old will depend on his number of appearances or any success Rose’s side enjoy next season.
Tottenham and Everton will likely both be paying close attention to Dortmund’s pursuit of Juventus centre-half Demiral. Calciomercato report the Toffees are one of several clubs to express their interest, along with Juve’s €40m (£34m) valuation.
Several Italian publications, including Tuttosport, have also claimed Spurs are keen after hiring Fabio Paratici as their Managing Director. The Italian was in charge at the Allianz Stadium before joining Tottenham, and was behind Demiral’s move there in 2019.
Dortmund pose bad news for Everton and Tottenham in Demiral transfer race
Dortmund pose bad news for Everton and Tottenham in their pursuit of Juventus defender Demiral. The Bundesliga outfit desperately need central-defensive options, with Sky Germany noting Dan-Axel Zagadou, Nnamdi Collins and Soumaila Coulibaly are injured.
Manuel Akanji and Mats Hummels are also late to return for pre-season after featuring at Euro 2020. Their absences have left Rose relying on U23 players to make up the numbers, but it’s not a permanent solution. And that’s why BVB are exploring options to sign Demiral.
Dortmund preparing their first official offer for Demiral is particularly bad for Everton and Tottenham. But Juventus pricing the Westfalenstadion side out of a transfer is a saving grace for the Premier League pair, as it keeps the window open for them to bid.
