The Express are reporting this morning that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have identified West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as an alternative to Aaron Ramsdale.
What’s the story?
Sky Sports reported over the weekend that Arsenal are planning to make a third bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Ramsdale.
The Gunners plan to make an offer of an initial £18 million. There will be add-ons, which will take the total amount to above £25 million.
The Guardian reported last week that the Blades are looking for £30 million including add-ons for the 23-year-old goalkeeper.
The Express are reporting this morning that Arsenal ‘like’ West Brom goalkeeper Johnstone.
It is being claimed that the Gunners have identified the 28-year-old – described as “outstanding” by Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Lineker on Twitter in March – as a cheaper alternative.

Sensible plan?
Johnstone is 28 now and is at the top of his game.
West Brom are open to selling the Englishman for £20 million, according to The Daily Star this week.
Arsenal would get a more mature and developed goalkeeper than Ramsdale for less money overall.
If Arsenal fail in their third bid for Ramdale, then they should definitely make a move for Johnstone.
