Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sign Pierluigi Gollini means that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have a clear run at Barcelona goalkeeper Neto, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the story?

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that both Arsenal and Tottenham want(ed) to sign Neto from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

However, Spurs have brought in former Aston Villa goalkeeper Gollini on loan from Atalanta.

This means that the North London club do not have to sign a new goalkeeper.

That, according to the report in Mundo Deportivo, leaves Arsenal as the only club interested in Brazil international goalkeeper Neto.

Neto wants to leave Barcelona and move to a club who will guarantee him playing time.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly thinks that the 31-year-old Brazilian player is better than his current three goalkeepers with his feet.

What are Arsenal waiting for?

Barcelona want to sell Neto, he wants to leave, and Arsenal want to sign him.

So, what’s stopping the deal from happening?

Pre-season training has started, and Arsenal should at least start talks with Barcelona over Neto.

Bernd Leno is a good goalkeeper, but the Germany international needs to be pushed and needs competition.

Neto has been at Juventus and is now at Barcelona, which shows that he is rated highly.
