Celtic legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has written in The Sunday Post that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are the team to beat, as the Hoops aim to reclaim the league title from the Gers.

Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title last season, ending Celtic’s hopes of clinching the championship for the 10th year in a row.

Gerrard’s team also went the entire league campaign unbeaten.

Former Celtic star Dalglish has suggested that Rangers will head into the new season as the favourites.

However, the Liverpool legend has made it clear that Celtic will not make it easy for their bitter Old Firm rivals.

Sir Kenny Dalglish’s verdict

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “Rangers are the team to be beat and, comparing the Old Firm, they look the much more-settled squad, and club, at the moment.

“Steven Gerrard and his players are going about their business, and there isn’t too much speculation surrounding his players, although the future of Alfredo Morelos still appears to be on the agenda. So Steven may need to bring in another striker in this window – but I reckon Celtic still need to bring in four or five more new players.

“Ange will be wanting his business complete, and the ins-and-outs decided as quickly as possible. The Celtic fans will be wondering how their team will shape up this season after the disappointment of their 10-in-a-row campaign.

“I sense a real determination from the Parkhead faithful to back their team to winning the title back from Ibrox in the next 10 months. But it will take something special to take it away from the south side of Glasgow. That’s what makes it all very fascinating.”

Things can change quickly

On paper, yes, Rangers are the better team at the moment and are more settled as a club.

After all, Celtic only recently appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager.

However, not many will have expected Rangers to do what they did last season.

Not only did the Gers win the title, but they also did not lose a single game.

That was special.

Rangers will know that things change quickly in football.

Once the summer transfer window closes, Celtic manager Postecoglou will have a clear idea of his squad.
