David Provan has written in The Scottish Sun that Celtic did well to sell Kristoffer Ajer, reminding everyone what he did against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox in May.
What’s the story?
Ajer has left Celtic to join Brentford this summer.
The Bees will play in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship.
As reported by Sky Sports, Brentford have paid Celtic an initial £13.5 million in transfer fees for central defender Ajer.
What does David Provan think?
Celtic legend Provan has made it clear that he thinks that it was a good piece of business from Celtic to cash in on Ajer.
The former Celtic star does not seem to rate the 23-year-old, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, and has pointed out how he allowed Alfredo Morelos to score against Celtic at Ibrox in May 2021.
The Colombia international striker found the back of the net in the 33rd minute of the Scottish Premiership game, as Rangers beat bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic 4-1.

David Provan’s comments
Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Can’t say I was unhappy to see Kristoffer Ajer leave Celtic. Getting £13.5 million for a player who’s not half as good as he thinks he is, is good business.
“For all the talk of a move to AC Milan, the best Ajer could get was a deal with Premier League minnows Brentford.
“Of his new signing Bees boss Thomas Frank says: ‘He can help us in both boxes. As a defender he has the physicality you need.’
“Obviously Frank didn’t see Ajer duck out of the way when Alfredo Morelos blasted past Scott Bain at Ibrox last May.”
Big move
Ajer is only 23, and mistakes like the one he made against Rangers in May happen.
Brentford will play in the Premier League next season, and it is a big move for the Norway international centre-back.
