Tottenham Hotspur have sealed their first signing of the summer.

Earlier today, Spurs announced that they had signed Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan from Atalanta.

But he may not be the last player who Tottenham sign from the Italian club this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites have agreed personal terms for Argentina and Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero.

It has previously been reported that the total fee could rise to £43 million.

And speaking to a Facebook Live session from Football London, Alasdair Gold, who exclusively covers the Lilywhites, has claimed that Romero is the player Fabio Paratici most wants to sign.

He said: “It’s a very complicated one to do because it’s going to be big, big money. Tottenham, they’re not ones for just laying out big money as it is. So it is all about how it is structured and whether they meet the actual asking price.

“As I understand it, [Fabio] Paratici, I’ve spoken about his way of dealing with up to 10 players for each position. I understand Romero is the one he would like the most.”

Coup

If and when this happens, it’s a major coup for Spurs.

Yes it’s a lot of money – in fact, he’d become one of Tottenham’s most expensive ever signings – but they absolutely need new centre-backs, especially considering Toby Alderweireld is reportedly leaving for Qatar.

Signing Gollini is just the start and the same could even be argued for Romero.

Tottenham finished seventh in the Premier League last season and improvement is impossible without major reinforcements, but Paratici has his finger on the pulse in this regard.
