According to Football London, Atalanta defender Cristian Romero is open to joining Tottenham, as long as no so-called ‘super clubs’ come in for him.
Romero has been strongly linked to Spurs, with reports claiming that the London club have now made an offer to sign the Argentine, and if they can agree terms with Atalanta, they should have a clear path to signing him, so long as no European giants come in for him.
So, could a big European club come in for him? Well, when you talk about ‘super clubs’ there are a few teams that don’t need defenders.
Indeed, with Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano moving to Liverpool and Bayern Munich respectively, it’s hard to see them moving for Romero, while Raphael Varane’s links to Manchester United seem to point towards the Red Devils not getting involved in this race.
One team that could perhaps threaten Spurs is Real Madrid. The Spanish giants certainly need a centre-half after losing Sergio Ramos and potentially losing Varane, and with Romero being voted the Serie A Defender of the Year last term, he’s certainly got what it takes to be a star at the very top level.
Romero has proven he’s got what it takes to take on the very best strikers in football. After all, he was once praised for dominating Zlatan Ibrahimovic during a game against AC Milan, and you can’t get the better of Zlatan unless you’re a special footballer.
