It looks like there just might be some substance to the speculation of Leeds United signing Leo Hjelde from Celtic this summer.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, the 18-year-old Celtic talent is a top target for the Whites’ director of football Victor Orta, in terms of youth signings.

The Spaniard has already enjoyed a cracking summer in regards to recruiting young players, with Adam Bate the latest starlet to arrive at Thorp Arch after leaving Chelsea a little earlier this week.

And there may be something in the Hjelde rumours and that’s because the player – who joined the Hoops ahead of Leeds in 2020 – is now following the Elland Road club on Instagram.

Coincidence?

It’s possible that Hjelde’s decision to follow Leeds is unrelated to the transfer speculation about a move to West Yorkshire.

But let’s be frank, it’s unlikely.

There’s no doubt that Celtic are a massive club but it’s clear that Orta and Marcelo Bielsa are building something very exciting with regards to the Under-23 side and a lot of players would love to be involved.

Aside from Bate, United have also added Sean McGurk and Amari Miller to the youth side this summer already, reinforcing that Orta is indeed in the market for teenage gems.

And only time will tell whether Hjeldge – labelled the new Virgil van Dijk by his former manager at Ross County – gets in on the action.
