Newcastle United have enquired about a potential deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers after missing out on Kristoffer Ajer.
That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Newcastle have now made contact over a move for the centre back with Steve Bruce desperate for a new centre back.
Newcastle have missed out on Norwegian ace Ajer, who has left Celtic for a move to Brentford this week.
The Northern Echo claimed in May that Newcastle wanted Carter-Vickers, but only as a second choice target behind Ajer.
With Ajer off the table now, the move for Carter-Vickers adds up – especially with Magpies coach Graeme Jones recommending a move after working with the American at Bournemouth.
The 23-year-old is back with Tottenham now, and started their pre-season friendly win over Colchester United on Wednesday night.

An exit is still expected for Carter-Vickers, who has little chance of playing regular first-team football under Nuno Espirito Santo this coming season.
The Daily Record noted earlier this month that Carter-Vickers fancies signing for Celtic this summer with new boss Ange Postecoglou seeking defensive additions.
We could now see Celtic and Newcastle battle for Carter-Vickers, and the 23-year-old may soon have a big choice to make.
