Speaking on The Done Deal Show, journalist Pete O’Rourke has given an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of James Maddison.
It’s been widely reported that Arsenal are keen on signing Maddison this summer, and O’Rourke believes that the Gunners are quietly becoming more and more confident of striking a deal.
Indeed, O’Rourke says that the London club have had encouraging signs on the Maddison front.
What’s been said?
O’Rourke gave an update on Maddison and Arsenal.
“Spaces have opened in that Arsenal midfield and they’re keen to get someone in. They’re getting encouraging signs that something could be done with James Maddison, which, maybe people thought it was a bit of a fantasy signing for Arsenal, but they’ve been encouraged that they may be able to persuade Leicester to do a deal on him. It seems Arsenal may be ready to offer a couple of fringe players as well as a substantial fee,” O’Rourke said.
“I think Maddison is coming round to the idea of moving from Leicester to Arsenal, so real encouraging signs for the Gunners that they might be able to land Maddison, who has been a top target for them, not just this summer, I was told last summer he was on their list as well. As things stand, Maddison is their top target.”
The journalist then went on to speak about their interest in the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Ruben Neves, before returning to his original point about Maddison.
“This one is gathering pace and Arsenal are growing ever more confident that there is the possibility of a deal happening.”

Brilliant news
This is fantastic to hear if you’re an Arsenal fan.
The Gunners need a new creative midfielder, and Maddison certainly fits that bill.
Maddison is a remarkable footballer, and he’s even an England international, with Gareth Southgate previously describing him as ‘outstanding’.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been lacking this type of player for too long now, and it seems as though the London club could get this one over the line.
