Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Pape Souare would be joining the Under-23 side during pre-season.

What’s the story?

Well, firstly, welcome back Pape!

The 31-year-old left Selhurst Park in 2019, after the Eagles helped him rebuild his fitness following a serious car crash in 2016.

It could’ve ended the left-back’s life, let alone his footballing career.

Thankfully, Souare made a full recovery, and joined Ligue 2 outfit Troyes after leaving south London in 2019.

However, the French side opted not to hand the 26-cap Senegal international another contract, so he’s currently a free agent.

As a result, the Eagles have kindly offered to let him maintain his fitness with the Under-23 side during pre-season.

Great decision by Crystal Palace

It’s heartwarming to see the Eagles welcome Souare back with open arms in his time of need.

The former LOSC Lille man was a fine player for Crystal Palace before his terrible accident, and was part of the side who reached the FA Cup final.

In total, Souare made 63 appearances for the Eagles.

It was his delightful cross into Connor Wickham which led to the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final win over Watford, back in 2016.

Additionally, it will be great for the Under-23 players to have the experienced Souare around, who they can lean on for advice.
