Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Marko Grujic had joined FC Porto on a permanent basis.

What’s the story?

Well, the 25-year-old’s five-year stay at Anfield is over.

Grujic was Jürgen Klopp’s first signing at Anfield, arriving in a £5.1m deal from Red Star Belgrade in 2016.

However, the 12-cap Serbia international only made 16 first-team appearances for the Reds in five years.

Grujic spent time on loan at Red Star Belgrade, Cardiff, Hertha Berlin and FC Porto, finding a permanent home at the latter club.

The towering midfielder spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with the Portuguese giants, scoring three goals in 41 appearances.

More great work from Michael Edwards

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have earned £10.5m from the sale of Grujic.

It’s not quite on the level of receiving £15m for Jordon Ibe and £19m for Dominic Solanke, but it’s still great work from Michael Edwards nonetheless.

Grujic hasn’t really impressed hugely in recent seasons, and three goals in 41 appearances last term isn’t amazing.

In that respect, Liverpool have done superbly well to make £10.5m, and more than double their initial investment on the Serbian.

Hopefully, we’ll now see this money put towards new signings.
