Keyshia Cole’s biological mother has sadly passed away at the age of 61.

The singer’s brother Sam told TMZ that their mother Frankie Lons overdosed at her home in Oakland, California while celebrating her birthday.

Keyshia Cole’s former boyfriend, Niko Khale, is one of many people who have paid poignant tributes to Frankie on social media.

Niko is a 25-year-old singer and songwriter. He was born on October 17th, 1995.

He became known to the public and media as Keyshia Cole’s boyfriend when they started dating in November 2017.

The couple welcomed their son Tobias in August 2019 and confirmed their break-up last year.

Niko was a guest star on the VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood and has gained 405k followers on Instagram.

Niko pays tribute to Keyshia Cole’s mother

The singer paid a tribute to Keyshia’s biological mother after the devastating news about her death.

Niko posted two pictures with Frankie on his Instagram profile, followed by the emotional message on her birthday:

“It weighs on you when you genuinely want to help somebody and you don’t know how to. As much as she showed her heart, I could never tell what was going through her mind. The love is real Mama Frankie. Fly high. Happy Birthday.”

Many of Niko’s fans and followers paid their condolences after he shared the poignant tribute.

“So genuine to show love for your sons grandmother,” wrote one person in the comments section.

“Rest in Eternal Sunshine. She didn’t know how much she helped someone in the same situation. Thanks you Ms Frankie for sharing your journey,” said someone else.

Niko says Frankie believed in his career

In another social media post, Niko shared a footage of him and Frankie in which she plays the piano, while he lip-syncs to his single ‘Hold On’.

He said that he was grateful for Frankie believing in “dat boy” and his career.

The emotional tributes on Instagram show that Niko and his son’s grandmother shared a special bond.

“Naaa Mama Frankie really believed in dat boy,” he captioned his other tribute to Frankie.
