Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo admits he’s uncertain whether Premier League giants Liverpool have made a move for Saul Niguez or not, speaking to Goal.
It looks like being a hectic end to the transfer window for both Liverpool and Atletico.
While the newly crowned La Liga champions weigh up a deal that would see prodigal son Antoine Griezmann return to the club where he played the best football of his career, Liverpool’s attempts to strengthen their midfield have been made that little bit harder by sudden doubts over Jordan Henderson.
The England international has reportedly reached an impasse in talks regarding a new deal at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has already lost Gini Wijnaldum this summer but losing Henderson, Liverpool’s captain, leader and most influential presence on and off the pitch, hardly bears thinking about.
Similarly, Saul’s future is as clear as mud with five weeks of the window remaining.
Could Saul Niguez replace Henderson at Liverpool?
This week, AS reported the agent of the Spain international had held talks with Liverpool regarding a potential £35 million switch to the Premier League.
Manchester United have also been linked, while some have suggested Saul could head to Camp Nou as part of a deal that would see Griezmann move in the opposite direction.

“A lot of people will ask about all the players, as always,” says Cerezo, who has become used to seeing key players leave on an almost annual basis.
“But in this case I don’t know if Liverpool has acted. We do have a technical team that deals with this very well and will be aware of everything.”
26-year-old Saul has seen his development stall in recent seasons, perhaps due to the fact Atletico coach Diego Simeone has used him in a variety of roles other than his preferred box-to-box midfield position.
Saul started just 22 games as Atletico won their first La Liga title since 2013/14 last season.
