Wolves fans have taken to Twitter to react after Dion Sanderson joined Birmingham on a season-long loan from Wolves.

What’s the story?

Well, you might be wondering why this concerns Newcastle fans.

It was The Athletic’s Newcastle correspondent Chris Waugh who revealed that the Magpies had also made an offer for Sanderson.

Steve Bruce wanted the 21-year-old at St James’ Park this summer.

However, Newcastle’s offer was considered to be derisory by Bruno Lage’s side.

The defender has now signed a new long-term contract at Molineux, before heading to St Andrew’s to play more Championship football.

Sanderson has spent time on loan at Cardiff and Sunderland across the last few years, racking up some good senior experience in the process.

Embarrassing for Newcastle

How can the Magpies fail to sign a player who’s now ended up at Birmingham?

Could Bruce not construct a package more enticing than whatever the Championship outfit have come up with?

Surely, Newcastle could’ve tempted Sanderson with a deal to play in the Premier League, rather than spend more time in the Championship.

It is quite baffling how the Magpies have lost out to Birmingham in the race for a player.

Even if Newcastle wanted Sanderson permanently, perhaps a loan with an option to buy could’ve been negotiated.

Failing that, even just a season-long loan, before exploring a permanent deal next summer, could’ve been an option.

Nevertheless, let’s see how the Newcastle fans on Twitter reacted to this setback…
