Newcastle United see Irfan Can Kahveci as an alternative to top target Joe Willock and an approach from the Premier League outfit could force Fenerbahce to sell, as reported by Fanatik.
When those anorak-wearing hipsters were telling us all to get excited about a Turkey side who were supposed to be the dark horses of Euro 2020, much of the pre-tournament discussion was centred around the Lille trio Burak Yilmaz, Zeki Celik and Yusuf Yazici, Serie A star Hakan Calhanoglu and Leicester City powerhouse Caglar Soyuncu.
But, as the so-called ‘dark horses’ fell at the first hurdle, only a few members of Senol Gunes’ squad could look themselves in the mirror and claim they performed to the best of their abilities in front of the watching world.
Kahveci was one of those.
The Fenerbahce play-maker scored Turkey’s only goal at the European Championships and what a goal it was; thundered into the top corner during the 3-1 defeat to Switzerland.
Kahveci’s wonder-strike would have done his hopes of a move to the Premier League no harm at all either, with Newcastle long time admirers of the former Istanbul Basaksehir man.
Will Newcastle sign a Turkey star if they can’t get Arsenal’s Joe Willock?
According to reports, the Magpies made a £13 million bid for Kahveci in a previous transfer window.

It is not certain how much Newcastle are willing to offer this time around but, according to Fanatik, Fenerbahce may be forced to sell should a reasonable bid arrive, even if one of Turkey’s biggest clubs are desperate to retain the 26-year-old’s services.
It is understood that Newcastle see Kahveci as an alternative to Joe Willock, the England U21 international who scored eight times in 11 starts during a stunning loan spell from Arsenal last season.
Speculation suggests that Arsenal would allow Willock to return to Newcastle, but Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has struck a rather different tone of late when asked about the midfielder’s future.
