Atalanta plan to sell Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur for a big profit, with talks between the Italian club and Spurs already underway, according to Football.London.

What’s the story?

Football.London are reporting that Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Romero from Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

Spurs’ new director of football, Fabio Paratici, wants to bring the Argentina international central defender to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Paratici actually signed the 23-year-old central defender for Juventus from Genoa in 2019.

Atalanta signed the youngster on a two-year loan deal from Juventus last summer.

The Serie A club’s plan is to exercise their option to make the loan deal permanent for €16million (£13.81m) and then sell him to Spurs ‘for a generous profit’.

Talks are already at an advanced stage.

Would Cristian Romero make Tottenham better?

Tottenham have been looking for a new centre-back this summer, and Romero could make the North London club better.

The Argentina international was one of the best defenders in Serie A last season and helped Atalanta finish in the top four.

The youngster made 29 starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A last season.

Romero scored two goals and gave two assists in those games.

The Argentine, who won Copa America this summer, also scored one goal and gave one assist in the Champions League last season.
