Danny Mills has said on talkSPORT (1:24pm, July 18, 2021) that he is surprised that Ben White is about to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and not Manchester United.
The former Leeds United and Manchester City defender believes that White is better than Arsenal, suggesting he will not win any major trophy with the Gunners anytime soon.
Mills has added that he is surprised that United have not made a move for the Brighton and Hove Albion defender.
Arsenal transfer imminent
The Sun have reported that Arsenal have agreed a £50 million deal with Brighton over the transfer of White.
The former Leeds United loanee has agreed a five-year contract with the Gunners.
Sky Sports had earlier reported that White wants to move to Arsenal.
What Danny Mills says
Mills said on talkSPORT (1:24pm, July 18, 2021): “The only thing I am surprised at is Ben White has gone to Arsenal. Let’s assume that he will be at Arsenal for two or three years at least before he goes somewhere else. I just think he is better than that.”
When asked why White would go somewhere else, Mills said: “Because he has got better chance of winning things. What is he going to win at Arsenal? League Cup, if he is lucky. Maybe the FA Cup.”
The pundit added: “I think he is an exceptional player and I think he is a fantastic signing for Arsenal. I am just a little bit surprised that Manchester United, who are looking for a centre-half, haven’t come in for him.”

Arsenal are a big pull
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United finished second in the Premier League table last season and will play in the Champions League in 2021-22.
The Manchester Evening News reported last month that although United were interested in White, they were not willing to spend £50 million on the England international, who can also play as a right-back or in midfield.
The Red Devils are a massive club and a global brand, but so are Arsenal.

Yes, the Gunners have not won the league title since 2004 and will not even play in the Europa League next season.
But, Arsenal have a pull, and playing for the Gunners is massive for any player.
White is only 23, and the chance to move from Brighton to the Gunners must be very tempting for the former Leeds loanee.
Arsenal manager Arteta likes his team to keep possession of the ball and play out from the back.
White is suited to that and will enjoy playing for Arsenal.
