Former Rangers midfielder John Fleck insists that Ibrox new boy John Lundstram has joined “one of the biggest clubs in the world” after moving to Ibrox – and warned his former Sheffield United team-mate that he’ll be under “miles more” pressure than most English Premier League sides.

Lundstram moved to Ibrox on a Bosman, becoming Steven Gerrard’s third signing of the summer and Fleck told BBC Scotland that he hopes to see the Englishman help the Gers build on last season’s title success.

The Scouser’s signing has excited Gers fans ahead of the defence of their title and a crack at qualifying for the Champions League and Lundstram is likely to be involved this afternoon when Rangers welcome Arsenal to Ibrox in a pre-season friendly.

“The pressure on him at Rangers will be miles more than it will ever be playing for the majority of teams in the Premier League with the history of the club,” Fleck said.

“Rangers won the title last season, so everyone’s tails will be up going into the new season and hopefully he’s a part of a successful team as well.”

Lundstram’s arrival should really increase competition for places in the Rangers midfield – as well as providing some much needed depth.

With the Light Blues short on bodies towards the end of last season it laid bare just how needed reinforcements were over the summer.

It doesn’t look as though Lundstram will be the last midfielder through the door either with the Gers still reportedly hoping at sign Dutch star Joey Veerman.
