Some Aston Villa fans on social media are rather confused after the Birmingham Mail reported that John McGinn is training to be used as more of a number 6.
McGinn has been a roaming midfielder ever since joining Villa, with his runs from deep and high pressing being two of Dean Smith’s side’s main weapons, but now it seems as though the Villans want to use him in more of a defensive role.
Villa fans feel as though this doesn’t make much sense, and it’s not hard to see where they’re coming from.
McGinn is great going forward, so using him as a defensive-minded player makes very little sense.
Now, we’re sure that McGinn could do a fantastic job at the base of the midfield – he’s that good that he could probably play anywhere, but using him in a deeper role does feel like a misuse of his talents.
It will be interesting to see how Villa line-up this season, but Villa fans aren’t happy about the idea of McGinn playing a holding role, and they’ve been making their voices heard on social media…
