Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are open to letting Connor Goldson leave for free next summer, according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

The Athletic are reporting that Rangers will not sell Goldson this summer.

The 28-year-old central defender is out of contract at Rangers at the end of next season.

If the former Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back does not sign a new deal, then Rangers will simply let him leave for free next summer.

The Scottish Premiership champions are relaxed about Goldson’s current contract and have no plans to cash in on him for a reduced fee now.

Sensible stance?

The stance that Rangers have taken over Goldson is very sensible indeed.

The 28-year-old has been superb for the Gers over the years and will play a big role for the team next season as well.

Rangers manager Gerrard described the Englishman as “absolutely immense” and “an absolute mountain” in The Scottish Sun in February 2021.

The Gers will be looking to win the Scottish Premiership title next season and could also play in the Champions League.

Rangers will need Goldson’s experience and quality.

Goldson scored four goals and gave two assists in 33 Scottish Premiership games for Rangers last season.

The defender also scored one goal in 10 Europa League matches.
