Speaking on his podcast, Athletic journalist Phil Hay has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is forever interested in the possibility of bringing Dan James to Elland Road.

Dan James is a long-term target for Leeds, having almost signed for the club in January 2019 before the deal collapsed at the 11th hour.

James had even posed in a Leeds shirt ahead of his proposed move from Swansea City.

Unfortunately, that deal didn’t come to fruition and James ended up going to Manchester United.

However, Hay says that Bielsa remains interested in the winger, and this comes just days after he was once again linked with a move to the Yorkshire outfit.

What’s been said?

Hay was asked about links to James, to which he replied:

“That’s a question for Bielsa because Bielsa is forever interested in Dan James, and you probably remember last summer that before they did the deal for Raphinha, they were looking into the possibility of bringing Dan James in on loan from Manchester United. I don’t think it was ever really a possibility because it didn’t seem as though Solskjaer wanted him to go.”

“I get the feeling that Bielsa will consistently be interested in Dan James, because he was very big on him when Leeds nearly got him from Swansea.”

One day

It seems as though as long as Bielsa is at Leeds there’s a chance that Daniel James could arrive.

The winger is clearly someone Bielsa really likes, and the fact that they’ve been linked with a move for three years in a row shows that Leeds really want him.

Of course, Leeds doing a deal with Manchester United is easier said than done, but with the Whites so keen, it’s impossible to write off this deal happening one day in the future.
