Valencia are under pressure to raise £22 million through player sales as Goncalo Guedes and Mouctar Diakhaby are linked with the likes of Spurs, Everton and Leicester City, as reported by Deporte Valenciano.

Financial problems have forced one of Spain’s biggest clubs to cash in on some of Europe’s most exciting youngsters during the past decade or so, with David Silva, Juan Mata, Ferran Torres and more slipping through their fingers.

And while more of the same was expected this summer, Valencia have struggled to drum up interest this time round.

Former France U21 international defender Diakhaby is a target for Leicester and Newcastle United. But, despite being available for a knock-down fee of £9 million, he remains a Valencia player with six weeks of the window remaining.

Goncalo Guedes dangled under Nuno’s nose at Spurs

The same can be said about Guedes, the ever-plateauing Portuguese player whose price tag has fallen from £36 million to £13 million in three years. Jorge Mendes is attempting to convince Tottenham to add Guedes to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad but, so far, offers have been thin on the ground.

Everton were also linked with Guedes but that trail, too, appears to have grown cold.

And that’s not an ideal scenario given Valencia still need to raise £22 million to balance the budget.

South Korean sensation Lee Kang-in was also linked with a move to the Premier League. Wolves are reportedly interested in the technically gifted attacking midfielder who’s been compared in some quarters to a young David Silva.

But while Lee is refusing to extend a contract that expires in 2022, he too appears to be stuck in limbo with Wolverhampton Wanderers looking elsewhere for the time being.
