According to The Athletic, West Ham United have failed with a bid for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s stated that West Ham made an offer on Wednesday, but it was ‘considerably below’ the £10million asking price set by the Baggies.
West Ham are now ‘unlikely’ to go much higher for Johnstone because they know he is out of contract in less than a year’s time.
David Moyes’ men may now focus on Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola instead, taking him on loan with an option to buy.
Johnstone could still leave West Brom though, as it’s stated that Arsenal have initiated contact by enquiring about a deal, viewing him as an alternative target to fellow England international Aaron Ramsdale.
Tottenham even want Johnstone, believing that he could be an heir to Hugo Lloris next summer when he becomes a free agent.

Johnstone, 28, was superb for West Brom last season and was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad after an injury to Nick Pope.
Ex-West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is a huge fan, comparing him to Jordan Pickford whilst suggesting that he was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League last season.
Johnstone will surely fancy a Premier League return as soon as possible, but it doesn’t look like he will be joining West Ham.
