According to 90Min, Everton want to sign Tammy Abraham this summer, and that’s a very interesting link, especially when you consider that Rafa Benitez has long been a fan of the striker.

Indeed, Benitez once tried to sign Abraham at Newcastle, even going as far as to meet him at St George’s Park while he was on England U21 duty.

Benitez opened up about this failed transfer a few months later, and he had good things to say about the Chelsea striker.

What was said?

Benitez called Abraham a player with potential who is good enough to be an England regular one day.

“We knew that he [Abraham] was a player with potential and could go with the national team now or in the future. He was with the Under-21s,” Benitez said.

“Yes Abraham could have been here, but he’s not here.

“We have to be sure we improve our players.”

Another chance

Benitez may not have landed his man when he was with Newcastle, but it seems as though he’s going to get another shot at bringing him in this summer at Everton.

Abraham would be an exciting addition at Goodison Park, especially if he comes in to play alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

After seeing Benitez’s old comments, it’s no shock that Everton are in for Abraham.

Fingers crossed the former Liverpool boss can get his man this time around.
