Manchester City and Pep Guardiola believe this summer is their last chance to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Athletic.
The Citizens and Spurs held private negotiations over a move for the England striker throughout Euro 2020. Neither side wanted discussions made public in case it would unsettle Kane, and were riled by claims a £100m offer.
But now the European Championship has finished, Manchester City will step up their bid to sign Kane from Tottenham. They want to give Guardiola every weapon possible over the next few years and will break from their previous policies.

Manchester City refuse to pay more than £60m on players, but will break the bank to sign Kane from Tottenham. The Premier League champions are also ready to pay over £100m to agree a move for the 27-year-old.
But it’s unclear if Manchester City will rise to Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy’s £150m asking price for Kane. Levy adamantly wants to keep the England captain in north London. Even though Kane infuriated him by intimating desires to leave in the last week of the term.
What is clear, however, is the Citizens will move quickly in the hope of concluding negotiations. The Etihad Stadium side believe this summer is their last chance to sign the Premier League Golden Boot winner, as it would be harder to justify a deal next year.
Kane will be 29 in just over a year and potentially at the start of a steady decline. And with Guardiola likely to leave Manchester City at the end of his contract in 2023, the pair would only have one season together if signed next summer.
Manchester City to make Tottenham star Kane a part of Guardiola’s goodbye
Manchester City are clearly determined to make Tottenham star Kane a part of Guardiola’s golden goodbye at the club. The Spanish manager is also a long-term admirer of the striker, The Athletic add, while noting the Etihad Stadium is the striker’s preferred destination.
But the Citizens will likely have to meet Levy’s asking price or see Kane refuse to train for a deal. And hand Guardiola the Premier League’s top-scorer and assist maker of last season. A player who Jack Grealish waxed lyrical over while in the England camp this summer.
“He is the best player I have ever played with,” the Aston Villa captain said, via Sky Sports. “He is unbelievable, he is an unbelievable professional on and off the pitch. When you see him around the place, this is why he is England captain.”
