Arsenal started their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat at Hibernian on Tuesday evening, but Omari Hutchinson enjoyed a strong cameo.

The Gunners travelled up to Edinburgh to take on the Scottish Premiership side in the first leg of their Scottish trip, with Rangers to come on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s men fell behind in comical circumstances as Arthur Okonkwo’s mistake allowed Martin Boyle to score, before Daniel MacKay made it 2-0.

Nicolas Pepe had a penalty saved in a dismal evening for Arsenal, though Emile Smith Rowe did pull one back for Mikel Arteta’s side late on.

It’s not the ideal start to pre-season for Arsenal and Arteta, but he was at least able to give some playing time to youngsters looking to break through.

One of them was Omari Hutchinson, who came on as a substitute for left back Sead Kolasinac with just 10 minutes left to play.

The 17-year-old is predominantly a winger, but came on at left back. He excelled last season with seven goals and eight assists in 20 Under-18 Premier League games.

Arsenal fans took to Twitter to hail Hutchinson, suggesting that he will be ‘big’ and fans should ‘remember the name’.

Others called him the real deal, praising his pace and dribbling ability whilst feeling that he is too good to play at left back.
