Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing that Friday’s pre-season friendly against Portsmouth has been scrapped.
What’s the story?
Well, Patrick Vieira was set to oversee his first game in charge of Crystal Palace against Portsmouth on Friday.
Both sides are training at St George’s Park, and were due to meet on one of the pitches for a friendly.
However, as The News Portsmouth covered, Dougie Freedman called the League One outfit to share the bad news on Monday afternoon.
Pompey have been left extremely disappointed, and are now trying to find a last-minute replacement for the friendly clash.
Why did Crystal Palace cancel?

The only explanation has come from the mouth of Portsmouth’s manager, Danny Cowley.
Speaking to The News, the ex-Huddersfield boss said: “Patrick Vieira initially agreed to play us, but I think they have picked up some injuries and are waiting for others to come back from international duty.”
Now, that is a little bit worrying, to say the least.
Yes, injuries and extended holidays are part and parcel of pre-season.

However, can the south Londoners not find a handful of academy gems to step in and ensure the fixture goes ahead?
This has shed light on just how thin Crystal Palace’s squad is going into the 2021/22 campaign.
Let’s see how the Eagles supporters on Twitter reacted to the news…
