Julian Nagelsmann has admitted he would jump at the chance to sign “super” Euro 2020 star Federico Chiesa but the reported Liverpool target is simply too expensive, speaking to Bild am Sonntag.

Just four weeks ago, the Juventus winger was restricted to nine minutes of action as Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri side began their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-0 shellacking of Turkey in Rome.

But, as Italy travelled to Wembley with a first European Championship title since 1968 in their sights, there was never any doubts over whether Chiesa would be handed a place in the starting XI.

Talk about a turnaround.

The former Fiorentina starlet has been one of the revelations of the tournament, a one-man wrecking ball living up to his “young Gareth Bale” tag during a series of explosive performances on the biggest of stages.

Chiesa was arguably the stand-out attacker during Sunday’s decider too, his devastating pace and fearless approach striking terror in the heart of Gareth Southgate’s back line before he was forced off with an 84th minute injury.

Can Liverpool land Euro 2020 star Chiesa?

As a result, Chiesa’s price tag has doubled in the space of 12 months, with Calciomercato reporting Juventus are demanding £77 million after Premier League giants Liverpool sounded out the 23-year-old’s availability.

“I would definitely want to sign Chiesa,” says Nagelsmann, translated by Football Italia, all but ruling out a bid from Bayern Munich for one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.

“He is a super player because he embodies incredible verve and dynamism. I’ve known him for a long time and think he’s outstanding because he’s so carefree. He likes to dribble and goes for the finish quickly.

“However, he also has a very, very big price tag.”

That £77 million price tag means Bayern Munich would have to shatter their transfer record for Chiesa.

And that’s not going to happen in this covid-afflicted era.
