Karen Carney has strongly criticised Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on BBC Sport (10:31pm, July 11, 2021) for his challenge on Aston Villa star Jack Grealish last night.

Euro 2020 final

Jorginho was in action for Italy against England in the Euro 2020 final last night.

The Chelsea midfielder started the game and played well, as the Italians won 3-2 on penalties.

Villa star Grealish did not start the match for England, but the 25-year-old came on as a substitute in extra time.

In extra time, Jorginho – who cost Chelsea £50 million in transfer fees, according to Sky Sports – made a challenge on Villa star Grealish that BBC pundit Carney thought was reckless.

What happened?

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho and Villa star Grealish both went for a loose ball in extra time.

The England international slid in to claim the ball, while Jorginho tried take it off his toes.

The Italy international slipped on the ball and stamped on Grealish’s knee.

The England international midfielder was left howling in pain, while Jorginho also went to ground.

The Chelsea star was only shown a yellow.

What Karen Carney said?

Former Chelsea women team’s star and England international Carney was following the match for BBC Sport, and she was far from impressed with Jorginho’s challenge.

Carney said on BBC Sport (10:31pm, July 11, 2021): “I think that’s reckless, completely reckless. That was a shocking challenge from Jorginho.”

Red-card challenge?

Many England fans will agree with Carney’s comments.

Perhaps Jorginho should have been shown a red card.

That could have helped England in the final minutes of extra time.

However, there is nothing anyone can do now.
