Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson was unable to add to his growing list of honours after England lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy on Sunday night.
Henderson has captained Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League titles in 2019 and 2020.
But he had to settle for a silver medal last night as Italy beat Gareth Southgate’s side on penalties to lift the trophy.
That being said, the Reds skipper still seems proud nonetheless.
As England players lined up to collect their runners-up medals, the Liverpool midfielder, a £20 million signing in 2011, was the only one who didn’t immediately take it off.
Here’s how some fans on Twitter reacted:
Class
The word ‘class’ is often associated with the Liverpool man and it’s for reasons like this.
There is no shame in losing the final of a major tournament on penalties and therefore there is no shame in keeping your medal on.
Henderson is a winner and his other success in the game proves that emphatically.
There is a difference between in settling for second best and not feeling disgraced by it – and the 31-year-old is very much in the latter category.
