Looking back on 2010, it was a particularly great year for cinema…

We began the new decade with such acclaimed efforts as The Fighter, The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, The Social network, Inception. It would be far too easy to go on.

However, there was a lesser-known, smaller title that made a significant impression on those who did seek it out. Of course, that film is Animal Kingdom.

Directed by David Michôd, it premiered at Sundance and has since been championed by more fans with each passing year. Those very same fans were fortunate enough to have it adapted into a series that began premiering on TNT in 2016.

Like the movie, the show’s reputation has continued to flourish, with audiences invited to check out the fifth season recently. So, with new instalments on the way, let’s consider the Animal Kingdom season 5 episode 2 air date.

Animal Kingdom season 5 episode 2 air date

  • The second episode will premiere on Sunday, July 18th 2021 on TNT.

It already has a title – ‘What Remains’ – and will follow up on the events of ‘Red Handed’; it was written by Bill Balas, who previously wrote season 4 episode 6, ‘Into the Black’. He has written another episode this season too.

As for what to expect, the synopsis includes that Pope handles Smurf’s remains while Craig and Renn work to balance the old life in the face of becoming parents.

Meanwhile, J finds a new job through an old acquaintance and Deran struggles to escape his past with Adrian.

Now, let’s consider what else is in store this time around…

How many episodes are there?

Season 5 will be made up of 13 episodes in total.

This is the same as seasons 2 through to 4, so fans can rest assured that they’ll be working through the latest crop of episodes for some time.

Taking the number of episodes into account, audiences can expect the season finale – episode 13, ‘Launch’ – to reach them on Sunday, October 3rd 2021.

This is in the event that there are no hiatuses, which there weren’t when the previous season aired.

“They’re all alpha animals…”

With the arrival of season 5, showrunner Daniele Nathanson spoke with TVLine about the issues that J and Uncle Pope’s alliance is about to encounter:

“It doesn’t evolve as he intended,” she said. “Remember there are two other guys in the family, and with Smurf gone, it releases a lot of the constraints on the old power dynamic.”

The executive producer also added:

“They’re all alpha animals and it was only Smurf’s power that kept everybody in line. So if you take away the mother lioness, the cubs will eventually start looking at each other and going, ‘What is the power structure without her? Is this what I want?’”

It’s sure to be an eventful season, so don’t forget to tune in weekly on TNT.
