According to The Mirror, Everton’s new boss Rafael Benitez is interested in raiding Newcastle United for winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

It was reported back in 2019 that Benitez wasn’t sure about signing Saint-Maximin when the Newcastle recruitment team were keen to lure him to St James’ Park.

Benitez ended up leaving that summer anyway so never had a chance to manage the Frenchman, but it seems that his opinion has somewhat changed.

Sources close to Benitez now suggest that he wants to lure Saint-Maximin to Everton in a move that could leave Magpies fans furious with their former boss.

A move for the Frenchman may depend on Richarlison’s future, given that Real Madrid are believed to be keen on signing the Brazilian international this summer.

Saint-Maximin has been outstanding for Newcastle since arriving from Nice in 2019, hitting seven goals and 11 assists whilst dazzling fans with his pace and outrageous trickery.

Teammate Callum Wilson has branded Saint-Maximin ‘unplayable’, and many Newcastle fans would likely share that view having seen him become a St James’ Park hero.

Newcastle would loathe to lose Saint-Maximin, especially to Benitez, but Everton would have to dig deep to sign him amid claims that Mike Ashley would want around £70million for Saint-Maximin this summer.
