Gary Lineker has suggested that James Maddison should snub a move to Arsenal, claiming that joining them from Leicester City would be a ‘backwards step’ for the player.
The £70 million-rated Foxes playmaker has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail in June, the Gunners are genuinely contenders to sign the Leicester attacker.
But should he join the North Londoners? Not according to former City player and Match of the Day host Lineker.
Is he right?
Well, kind of.
Brendan Rodgers’s side finished five points and three places above Arsenal in the Premier League table last season.
Not only that, but the King Power club also managed to win a trophy for themselves after beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Of course, Mikel Arteta’s side also managed that 11 months ago, but Leicester have also been dreadfully unlucky to miss out on Champions League football in each of the past two seasons.
And Arsenal are nowhere near good enough to even challenge for a top-four spot right now, it has to be said.
