The German science-fiction series Biohackers has returned to Netflix for Season 2, and fans are wondering if this will be the end of the road for Emma’s journey.
The show follows Emma on the pursuit to unravel her dark past rooted in genetic experimentation. Season 2 welcomed the addition of Thomas Kretschmann, who contributed to the season’s harrowing progression.
It’s only natural to ponder over a subsequent season after a finale, however Biohacker’s Season 2 finale seems to suggest that Emma’s story is now complete.
Season 2 Finale
*Major Spoilers Ahead*
We find out what happened to Emma after she was abducted, which concluded the premise hinged on Season 2.
Kretschmann’s character Wolfgang is adamant that Lorenz’s drug ‘Homo Deus’ cannot exist in the world, nor Emma’s knowledge of it, leading to Wolfgang’s ultimatum: forget the events of the last 24 hours or die.
After a scuffle with Wolfgang, the finale then turns to Emma’s meeting with Lorenz which turns out to be a setup orchestrated by Wolfgang.
Lorenz ends up getting shot and consequently dies, and the season concludes with Emma retrieving her memory.
Season 2 appears to resolve Emma’s journey pretty neatly and offers a chance for her to live safely with Jasper and friends, rendering the show’s continuation into Season 3 somewhat unlikely.
Season 3 Renewal
There’s also Netflix’s renewal pattern to consider, referring to the streaming platform’s habit of capping its original shows at two seasons.
There have been exceptions to this, such as Atypical’s four-season run, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to logistics.
Given Season 2’s conclusion combined with Netflix’s renewal formula, it seems unlikely that Biohackers will stretch into a third season, however this is not set in stone.
Netflix has neither renewed nor cancelled the show yet, and the writers could have a whole third season mapped out to Netflix’s approval.
Biohackers Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
