The filming locations in a movie or TV can sometimes make or break the final product with real locations often being favoured by many.
Thankfully, Fear Street fans will be glad to know that the Netflix horror trilogy doesn’t fall into the trap of a green-screen backdrop.
But just what where was Fear Street Part 2: 1978 filmed and what locations went into creating Camp Nightwing?
Fear Street Part 2: 1978 release date and plot
Part 2 in the Fear Street trilogy, 1978, arrived on Netflix on July 9th, 2021.
Set 16 years before the events of Part 1, the second instalment in the Fear Street trilogy takes us back to 1978 for a summer of fun at Camp Nightwing.
The camp is divided as the campers and counsellors from the prosperous town of Sunnyvale look down on their counterparts from the downtrodden Shadyside.
However, when the horrors of the towns’ shared past emerge and several campers are possessed by a murderous presence, the Shadyside and Sunnyvale residents must put their differences aside in a grim fight for survival.
Where was Fear Street Part 2 filmed?
- Fear Street Part 2: 1978 was filmed in and around Atlanta, Georgia.
The main filming location used in Part 2 is Hard Labor Creek State Park which is roughly 50 miles southeast of Atlanta and doubles as the fictional Camp Nightwing.
Other locations used in Part 2 include North Dekalb Mall in Decatur and East Point in Georgia which were also featured in Part 1: 1994.
Filming on the Fear Stree trilogy took place back-to-back between March and September 2019. Despite being the second film in the series, 1978 was actually the last to be filmed.
You can stay at Camp Nightwing
That’s right, fans of Fear Street can pay a visit to and even stay at the location behind Camp Nightwing.
Hard Labor Creek State Park plays host to two main group camping sites, Daniel Morgan and Rutledge, and Fear Street Part 2 seems to have used a combination of the two.
As well as the group camps, the State Park also features a golf course, 20 cottages, over 50 tent and RV sites and 11 campsites for horse owners, including stables.
Availability for the summer of 2021 is limited with only a handful of dates remaining according to the Hard Labor Creek State Park website.
According to a press release from Netflix, the retreat hadn’t been updated or remodelled since the 1960s prior to filming but it has since been refurbished.
However, the camp used for filming (which also featured in Friday 13th: Part VI) is reported to be haunted with several crew members claiming to have seen things during filming.
Fear Street Part 2: 1978 is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on July 9th, 2021.
