Are you ready for a claustrophobic slice of sci-fi terror?
Yeah, us too.
So far this year, audiences have been invited to check out an exciting selection of films, with highly-anticipated highlights including A Quiet Place: Part II, Black Widow, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and beyond.
Fortunately, there’s still plenty more to look forward to, and we’re not just talking about Dune and No Time to Die either.
One of the latest titles to capture attention comes from French director Mathieu Turi. Now, the time has finally come to consider where to watch Meander, as well as what to expect…
Where to watch Meander
- The movie will be available to watch in select US cinemas and on VOD from Friday, July 9th 2021.
So, for those who wish to check it out on the big screen, it’s worth checking if a nearby cinema has any screenings beforehand, as it isn’t receiving a widespread theatrical release.
On the other hand, it will be available on the likes of iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, etc. for a fee. As of yet, it’s uncertain how much it will cost to access the film on VOD at home.
Looking at what to expect, Meander stars Gaia Weiss in the lead as Lisa, who awakes to find herself trapped in a mysterious labyrinth of traps. Upon her wrist is a countdown bracelet that compels her to move forward through this string of obstacles with haste.
As she works through this twisted course she is haunted by memories of her deceased daughter.
Will she make it out in time? Well, there’s only one way for audiences to find out!

“It works very well in cinema…”
While in conversation with Cineuropa, director Mathieu Turi opened up about the universal fear of the claustrophobic situations he explores in the film:
“I am not claustrophobic at all, but even I would be frightened watching this kind of movie. It’s in all of us; we are afraid of being stuck like that. But it works very well in cinema, in movies like Buried or Cube. I really wanted to use that feeling to tell a story.”
However, he addresses that Meander is about so much more than fear. It’s also a character study of sorts: “Apart from all these traps, I thought it would be interesting to focus on what’s inside Lisa. She is a mother, or rather she was one, and now she has to deal with the death of a child…”
He added: “At the beginning, Lisa is a woman who doesn’t want to live anymore – then she fights for her life. It’s almost illogical, but there is this animal instinct that kicks in, and you don’t even know why.”
Meander is available in select US cinemas and on VOD from Friday, July 9th 2021.
