Celtic have been heavily linked with Mat Ryan of late – and he may have dropped a hint that he’s interested in a move to Parkhead.

The Bhoys have landed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, so it’s no great shock that he is being linked with a move to sign Australian players.

Ryan is one of them; his loan spell at Arsenal is now over, but he is still expected to leave Brighton and Hove Albion this summer and Celtic are keen according to talkSPORT.

Postecoglou managed Ryan during his time in charge of the Australian national team, and he would certainly help fix one of Celtic’s problem areas.

Vasilis Barkas struggled in his first season at the club, whilst Scott Bain and Conor Hazard weren’t really able to nail down the spot as Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Ryan could certainly fill that role having impressed in the Premier League in recent years, but Diario Vasco report that he is ‘very close’ to signing for Real Sociedad.

The 29-year-old has now been talking about his future on FOX Sports back in Australia, and may have given Celtic some real hope of a deal.

His decision of joining Celtic or Real Sociedad was framed as ‘haggis or paella?’, and Ryan stated ‘Haggis every day of the week’.

“Nah, at the minute I’m on the fence. I’m not sure what I fancy, what my tastebuds are craving just now. I’ll have to wait and see,” he continued.

“I mean, it’s obviously always flattering to have interest and all that. There’s been a lot of speculation about it, I guess, people putting two and two together. Realising that I guess I’m probably at the stage of my career now where [a move] is probably going to be happening given the circumstances at Brighton.”

“And obviously, given the relationship between Ange and I in the past, in the national team, I think there’s a lot of people putting two and two together. It’s interesting, that move may come about. I’m not really sure what’s going, just waiting and seeing, and trying to give the diplomatic answer,” Ryan added.

It seems that Celtic have a real chance of signing Ryan, and his comments about haggis over paella may well be a hint that he fancies a move to Parkhead over returning to Spain after a prior spell with Valencia.
