Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been full of praise for Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for his showings as an attacking midfielder at Euro 2020.
Wright was previewing Denmark vs England ahead of Wednesday’s key semi-final clash, and he’s had nothing but good things to say about the Danes, including Hojbjerg.
The Spurs man has been playing in a more creative role for Denmark, and Wright has been very impressed by what he’s seen so far.
What’s been said?
Wright was waxing-lyrical about this Denmark side, stating that he was particularly impressed by Hojbjerg’s showings in a more creative role.
“That team and the way that team has been steadily constructed, you heard tha manager saying that when he got there in 2016 he knew he had a solid outfit, and with them, they made sure to get those young players, the likes of Christian Eriksen was at Ajax when he was 18, Christensen went to Chelsea when he was 16, they wanted to get their top players at top clubs at a younger age, rather than getting them there at 23 or 25,” Wright said
“They are playing a real high-end standard of football, they’ve got so much quality just looking at Hojbjerg playing further forward in kind of a number 10 doing creative stuff with Damsgaard and then Dolberg up there doing unbelievable stuff and Delaney as well.”

Threat
England will be hoping for a straightforward win against Denmark on Wendesday, but Hojbjerg is a real threat to their chances of progressing to the final.
The Spurs man will undoubtedly be a key player for the Danes at Wembley, and while most England players will know how to handle him after playing against him in the Premier League, they may not know what to expect from him in this new role.
Sadly for England, Hojbjerg could easily be the ace up Denmark’s sleeve, and he’s someone Gareth Southgate has to be wary of.
