According to The Athletic, Leeds United have rejected an approach from Paris Saint-Germain for goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

It’s claimed that are keen to show that they’re moving forward as a club, and subsequently rejected a move from PSG for their stopper.

PSG have been in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, seemingly wanting to sign an heir to Keylor Navas. The Costa Rican ace turns 35 in December.

A move to sign Meslier is no great shock.

He’s one of the top young French talents playing outside of Ligue 1 right now, and boss Mauricio Pochettino will know all about Leeds.

His mentor was Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, with the pair going way back to Newell’s Old Boys, Espanyol and the Argentinian national team together.

Pochettino will now how good Meslier has been for Leeds in the Premier League; he was even branded ‘incredible’ by former Whites striker Jermaine Beckford.

PSG did end up finding their young goalkeeper for the future by securing AC Milan stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer, so Leeds seem to be safe with Meslier for a while yet.

At just 21, Meslier has enormous potential, and it’s great to see Leeds fend off one of Europe’s major clubs in order to keep a very promising player.
